Come and meet the Supreme Court victor of Janus v. AFSCME and hear his modern day “David versus Goliath” story.

Mark Janus is dedicated to serving. As a young man he became an Eagle Scout, most recently he worked as a child support specialist for Illinois state government ensuring that children received all the resources to which they were entitled. In the spring of 2015, Mark became the plaintiff in Janus versus AFSCME. For more than 40 years, millions of government workers across the country were required to give part of every paycheck to unions that engage in political speech of which they may disagree as a condition of working in public service. Janus v. AFSCME challenged that precedent and on June 27th the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Mr. Janus, stating that no government worker can be required to pay fees or dues to government unions as a requirement of their employment. Mark fought for his First Amendment rights – and the rights of more than 5 million other government workers – all the way to the United States Supreme Court. His bravery resulted in the single greatest victory for First Amendment and workers rights in a generation.
