Welcome to eSlate
Although different in appearence, Kane County's eSlate voting system is just as easy to use as the previous punch ballot... and much more secure!

The eSlate’s ballot navigation system provides a level of accuracy and flexibility that competitive systems cannot match. The equipment is based on the newest technology, purposefully bypassing older-generation touch screen interfaces, which have a higher maintenance cost and other associated risks, including the need to recalibrate, decreasing clarity due to surface abrasions, poorly defined target zones, damage in field use, limited accessibility for special needs voters, limited flexibility in ballot design and illumination issues.

The eSlate has been designed to include a state-of-the-art optical encoder, called the SELECT Wheel, as its primary voter interface, making the eSlate the most accurate device on the market for clearly recording voter intent. This technology provides 100% positional accuracy at all times and eliminates problems generally associated with touch screen systems.

In addition, the eSlate features a secure, real-time embedded operating system that is not Windows-based and therefore provides enhanced security. This is the same operating system used by industry leaders such as Lockheed Martin, Exabyte, Tektronix, Motorola and many others in critical medical applications, automobiles, precision laboratory measurement devices, satellites, and even military aircraft. For these types of applications, failure is not an option. The election process is no less critical.

When you arrive to vote, present your voter registration or government issued identification card to the poll worker. They will sign you in as in the past and issue you a randomly generated access code.

Take your access code to your assigned booth. The eslate will serve as your ballot. Turn the SELECT wheel to move the on screen cursor to make your selections. Press the ENTER key to select the highlighted option on the screen. The PREV and PREV buttons allow you to review past pages for errors or skip ahead.

Proceed to enter your randomly generated passcode into the eSlate by highlighting your choice with the SELECT wheel, and pressing ENTER to select each digit.

You will now have your ballot appear on the screen.

  1. Move the cursor up and down using the SELECT wheel to highlight your choices in each race.
  2. Press ENTER to make your choice.
  3. Once you have made your selections for the race, the cursor will automatically advance to the next race.
  4. Continue through the ballot until all choices are made for each race.
  5. Use the PREV and NEXT buttons to navigate through previous pages to check or alter your choices.
  6. Press the red CAST BALLOT button on the bottom left of the eSlate.

A ballot Summary Page will now appear to offer you a chance to review your recorded choices for each race.

If you wish to change a vote, turn the SELECT wheel to highlight that race. Press the ENTER boutton to navigate back to that race and recast your vote.

If you are satisfied with your choices, press the red CAST BALLOT button.

Warning: By pressing the CAST BALLOT on the Summary Page, you will be locking in your vote and finishing the voting process. DO NOT press the CAST BALLOT button until you are finished voting.

The waiving American flag indicates that your vote has been cast and recorded. Visit the election judge to recieve your "Just Voted" sticker.

Congratulations! You have now taken part in the democratic process.
