Democrat
Brand BOLOGNA
Every time
a campaign season rolls around, our friends in the Democrat
Party feel the voters deserve a diet of 100% pure bologna.
Let's separate out some of the "bull" they
are using in
their recipe:

"...eliminate
$10,667 medical perks for the Trustees and Clerk."
Democrat
Clerk Candidate Ralph Gross had yet another GROSS
exaggeration of the truth. The above quote was taken
from Mr. Gross' Daily Herald Questionnaire in response
to a question of cutting the budget to account for the
difficult economic times facing our country. In reality,
neither the Trustees nor the Township Clerk receive
ANY type of medical perks. In fact, their salaries are
less than one half of the make-believe medical benefits
Gross accuses them of possessing. Further, all full-time
employees of the Elgin Township already contribute towards
their medical benefits, just as Mr. Gross suggests,
and have done so for quite sometime. Rather than being
a visionary, Mr. Gross' plan for the future was already
accomplished 20+years ago.

"...Elgin
Township's Annual Payroll is in excess of $1.3 million."
Democrat
Trustee candidate William Becker threw out this gem at
the Northeast Neighbors Association candidate night. Not
even close. Even while adding the salaries of all three
full time administrators, part time elected officials,
and staff for the Township, Assessor and Highway Department,
the payroll overhead does not even reach one half of Mr.
Becker's accusation. We are simply at a lost for where
Mr. Becker came up with these numbers.
|
"...if
elected Highway Commissioner, I'll fix the potholes on our
streets."
Democrat
Highway Commissioner candidate Jim Shales has campaigned
on fixing Elgin Township's potholes. The problem is that
the potholes he is referring to are not on Township maintained
roads! He is referring to the streets under the jurisdiction
of either the State of Illinois or the City of Elgin.
Elgin Township does not have a single pothole on its streets.
Of course if Jack actually lived in the district, he might
know this...
|
"...Elgin's
Road District will provide free bus trips for Elgin's Seniors."
Democrat
Highway Commissioner candidate Jim Shales is again making
promises he cannot keep. This time he is simply ignoring
the fact that Elgin Township has already been a primary
supporter of the Dial-A-Ride program that already caters
to senior transportation. Of course if he plans to create
his own senior bussing service that would compete with
the Township sponsored Dial-A-Ride, he has yet to explain
how it will be paid for.

"...Elgin
Township should establish a mental health board."
The
Democrats have continued to promote this idea throughout
the campaign. What they do not tell the voters that such
action would require a 708 Board Referendum, which would
establish an additional layer of bureaucracy and RAISE
YOUR TAXES! Again, the Democrats have campaigned under
a false claim that such action would be visionary and
forward thinking, but in reality 708 referendums have
been put before the voters of Elgin Township on numerous
locations, and failed by large margins each time. With
the economy in its current state, would you support new
taxes?
This
is yet another old failed idea proposed by the Democrats
under the guise of fresh new plans. If you are driving
a car, you will surely get into an accident if you continue
to look only through the rear view mirror.
|
"...Elgin
Township should be more transparent in its spending, release
the names of those who receive General and Emergency Assistance."
Elgin
Township continues to provide all information to the public
in a speedy and transparent manner. All Board Minutes
are posted at www.elgintownship.com in pdf format for
easy downloads. While the township will provide expenditure
totals through General Assistance, it realizes that these
individuals receiving foreclosure assistance, utilities
assistance etc have a right to their privacy as well.Any
further data can be obtained through a Freedom of Information
request with the Township Clerk.
Of
course, all information can be received in real time by
attending the Elgin Township meetings. Most of the Democrats
accusing the Township of poor transparency have either
never been to a meeting, or only began attending AFTER
they announced their candidacy.

"My
first act as Supervisor will be to hire current Supervisor
Annette Miller to run the office."
Democrat
Supervisor Candidate Fred Steffen has publicly stated
that he would hire his opponent the current Supervisor
Annette Miller to run the Township Offices. OK... then
what will he do other than collect a paycheck? Fred might
be a nice guy, but by his own admission he has no clue
on how to be Supervisor, hence the need to hire the current
Supervisor. Why run for an office that you know you cannot
administer? It sounds to us that he is endorsing Annette's
job as Supervisor. Its not everyday that your opponent
endorses you. Thanks Fred!

"The
local Kane County/Elgin Township Republicans pulled a fast
one and prevented one of the Democratic Candidates to be
placed on the 2-24 Consolidated Primary ballot. They are
very afraid he will win."
Democrat
State Senator Michael Noland's Legislative Director Rich
Jacobs sent this erroneous email in February to incorrectly
portray the circumstances involving Democrat Jim Shales'
candidacy for Highway Commissioner. The email goes as
far as out right accusing the Republican Party of removing
Jim Shales from the ballot in order to protect Republican
Candidate Rick Burnidge. In reality, Mr. Jacobs' accusations
are 100% bologna.
Separating
Out The Bull: Part of Jacobs' claim was
true: Democrat Jim Shales was removed from the Democrat
Ballot. The part he neglects to mention is that Jim Shales'
name was removed from the ballot because JIM SHALES
WITHDREW FROM THE BALLOT! The truth in the story
is that Jim Shales' initial petitions were challenged
by a resident of Elgin Township that claimed Mr. Shales
did not meet the state statute requirement that all person's
seeking election to Township Road Commissioner reside
within the district for one year prior to the election.
The challenger presented evidence including an MLS listing
of Mr. Shales' alleged home showing the home was vacant
for the last 18 months and photos of the vacant home to
the Township Election Commission. Rather than defend himself
and show proof of his residency, Mr. Shales submitted
a withdrawal of candidacy form to the Elgin Township Clerk,
REMOVING HIMSELF FROM THE BALLOT! To this day, Mr. Shales'
alleged residence on St. Charles Street remains vacant.
When the Kane County Sheriff's Office went to the alleged
address to deliver the objection, the home was found to
be vacant.
If
Mr. Jacobs bothered to check the facts, he might have
realized that it may be Mr. Shales that is pulling a fast
one.

"Elgin
Township pays one of the highest tax rates in Kane County."
Republican
turned Democratic-Opportunist Penny Wegman is trying to
tie Elgin Township to your property taxes. What she neglects
to mention is that Elgin Township contributes to less
than 1% of your total tax bill. The vast majority of the
tax bill is directly attributed to your school districts.
The reason that she may hide that truth is that for the
last few years she has served as President of the Regional
School Board.
